2022 – Taking Local Action to Address Excess weight in Milton Keynes

Two out of three adults and two out of five 11-year olds living in Milton Keynes are overweight or obese. Excess weight is a major cause of ill health and death locally and disproportionately affects some of our poorest communities.

Tackling excess weight is not simply a matter of educating individuals to make healthier choices. The people who are most likely to become overweight or obese are those whose lives are shaped by work, school and social environments that promote overeating and inactivity. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale and complexity of the challenge, but there are effective actions we can take locally.

This report focuses on the important roles that partner organisations and businesses in Milton Keynes play in shaping our environment and keeping our population healthy.
